Why I Almost Quit Reading the Bible

If you had told me when I first started reading the Bible that one day I would genuinely enjoy studying it, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. The truth is, when I first opened my Bible, I was completely lost. I’ve always been an active reader and enjoy all kinds of books, but the Bible confused me in a way nothing else ever had. No matter how much I read, I couldn’t seem to understand what I was reading or remember any of it afterward.

Like many people, I decided to start at the beginning with the Old Testament. It seemed like the logical place to begin after all, that’s where the Bible starts. But it didn’t take long before I found myself overwhelmed. I constantly wondered what I had just read, what it meant, how it connected everything together, and where Jesus fit into the story. At times, I also struggled to understand why there seemed to be so much evil in a world created by a God who loves us.
